The concept of fundamentalism and consequences in the Muslims world

lately we've heard many muslims has been labeled as terrorist and this is a serious problem that should be emphasize by all muslims in the world....there are many reasons actually that lead to this problem and one of them is the rise of the religious fundamentalism....here is my short article about the concept of fundamentalism and consequences in the Muslims world...

The rise of religious fundamentalism has caused and continuous to cause huge havoc in many societies. Hundreds of thousands of people have died as a result of it and the developments of many countries have been distorted by it and there is no end in this tragedy. The phenomenon is not only happen in the Muslims countries but also in the stable and secular west. The issues always been debated, due to the fact that it brings more negative consequences than positive. It gives rise to terrorism that what always been associated with Islam. Islam is portrayed as a religion of sword and religion of violence. This is due to the fact that many of terrorist group are among the Islamic fundamentalist. These groups often used religion to legitimate their aggressive act, and as a result, the term what is called Islamophobia arise. The examples of Islamic fundamentalist are Khomeini in Iran, Palestinian-Hamas, Al-Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and many others.

The fundamentalist rejects the separation between politics and religion. For them political activities are religiously grounded, as what Khomeini put in his will, ‘Politics is religion’. Shtromas (1994). In addition, the attack on World Trade Center has lead to the war on terrorism, and sadly said, terrorist is always been associated with the Muslims and whether we like it or not, the war on terrorism is actually the war on Islam. In western media, Islam is also painted as a violent religion. For me, in my opinion, the root cause of these problem is that the fundamentalism idea. The fundamentalism idea cannot be acceptable at all. If these groups of people do not associated themselves with Islam, I think, the image of Islam is protected and Islam and Muslims will not be portrayed as violence or terrorist or radicals and so on and the term Islamophobia will no be created. Nowadays, for a fact, Muslims having difficulties and live in depression, where everywhere we go we will be labeled as terrorist, because of the stupid action made by unconscious people or psycho maniac people in order to fulfill their own desire.

Furthermore, it is arguably that the biggest global threat is that of religious fundamentalism. It is believed that the fundamentalist are seeking to replace secular governments with the Islamic state that are based on their own rigid interpretation of Shariah law by using violence. We can see that on newspaper many Muslims involve in suicide bombing as what they claimed as Jihad and majority of these people are among the Islamic fundamentalism. That is why Islam is always associated with the religion of the sword. Diagnosing terrorism as a symptom and Islam as the problem, it is flawed and has serious risks with dangerous consequences. It confirms radical beliefs and fears, alienates the moderate Muslims majority as well as reinforces the idea that the war against global terrorism is really a war against Islam. Whether one is radical or moderate, this negative attitude is a widespread perception. According to Esposito and Mogahed (2007) they said that it is not surprising, given that the primary victims of Muslims extremism and terrorism have been Muslims society. That is not surprise that Muslims societies are always considered as extremists and terrorists. Therefore, every Muslim should be aware that using emotional is not the final way to settle any disputes that arise, rather than Muslims should going back to the root and the basic teaching of Islam which is Quran and Sunnah.
In conclusion, the concept of fundamentalism cannot be acceptable due to the fact that it bring more negative consequences especially in the Muslims world. We can see that thousands of people has died because of the religious of people and this is clearly show that Muslims in everywhere is facing difficult situation where people around the world portrayed Muslims as terrorists and create Islamophobia. Muslims have been discriminated and have difficulties, thus it’s distort the normal life. Therefore people that claimed that fundamentalism is the idea to fight for the right or an idea to protect religion which is Islam should, I think, should be more rational. Does Islam allowed things which give more harm rather than benefits? You answer it.
